CBC Americas, a unit of Tokyo-based CBC Group, is part of a global network of trade and distribution operations that handle imaging, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, optics and medical devices. Spring Hill House is home to N.C. State University's North Carolina Japan Center, which encourages economic relations between North Carolina and Japan. Its programs include trade promotion, technical assistance to economic- development organizations and cultural support for Japanese transplants arriving in the state. Spring Hill House was a "game changer" in CBC's national search for a new base of operations. "The staf of the Japan Center went out of their way to be a resource as company of cials worked to learn more about doing business in North Carolina," Gov. Pat McCrory said at the announcement. "When a company is looking to relocate — especially a company with some cultural dif erences — it's very important to feel welcome." CBC is moving its headquarters from Commack, N.Y., to the top fl oor of a six-story of ce building in Cary. As part of its Tar Heel plans, the company is leasing nearly 135,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space at the North Carolina Industrial Center, a 600-acre industrial park in Mebane. The company is bringing 101 jobs to the state. "This is an exciting time in the history of CBC Americas," says CEO Kazuhiko Kondo. The new headquarters is part of a series of structural and strategic changes to the 55-year-old company. CBC's larger objective is to align itself with the current business climate and the markets it serves. "We consider this a new beginning for our company. We fully expect to become a stronger, more ef cient and more successful organization as a result."
