WELCOME OPPORTUNITY IS WAITING O rville and Wilbur Wright saw possibility in Kill Devil Hills. Steady breezes for lifting and soft sand for landing made it an ideal place to prove powered flight possible in December 1903. They launched an industry that still soars in the state. Opportunities abound in North Carolina. Chinabased Lenovo Group Ltd., the largest computer-maker in the world, sees them. That's why it recently launched a production line in Whitsett, joining the headquarters, logistics and customer-service operations it already had in the state. New York-based MetLife Inc. also noticed them. It's opening two Tar Heel centers, one each in established technology and financial hubs. The state's investments in transportation infrastructure and renewable energy are opening doors for other companies, as well. But it's not all about work. The coast offers boating and beaches. The mountains — including Mount Mitch- ell, the highest point in the eastern U.S. — offer winter skiing and summer hiking. In between there is big-city culture, complete with museums, professional and college sports, and the best barbecue in the country. Gov. Pat McCrory has assembled a team to revamp economic development in the state. That includes making sure businesses and their employees learn of the support and benefits available to them in North Carolina. We chose to live, raise our families and work here because of what our state has to offer. Join us. There are opportunities here for you, too.
