Charlotte-based UTC Aerospace Systems builds a variety of
aviation products, including fire protection in Wilson and Raleigh.
The company, a division of France-based SAFRAN Group, arrived
in North Carolina in 2008 after a search for its first — and thus far,
only — U.S. manufacturing site. Given the technical and regulatory
complexity of aircraft components, close proximity to suppliers is
important to companies such as Turbomeca. "When we're doing our
sourcing, we're always looking for somebody that's geographically
close to us. We want to work with them and be there for them as they
go through the validation process, which can be very time-consuming
and complex." ATI Allvac and UTC Aerospace Systems are suppliers
to Turbomeca's parent company.
